Warmer Kiwi Homes is a new four-year Government programme offering grants covering two-thirds of the cost of ceiling and underfloor insulation, as well as ground moisture barriers. Other funding from some community organisations will make the cost to homeowners as low as possible in many areas.
Am I eligible for a Warmer Kiwi Homes grant?
To be eligible for a grant you will need to:
- be the homeowner (owner-occupier) of a home built before 2008 AND
- have a Community Services Card or SuperGold combo card, OR
- own and be living in a home in an area identified as lower-income – contact one of the service providers listed below to find out if your address qualifies OR
be referred by the Healthy Homes Initiative.
How to apply for a Warmer Kiwi Homes grant

Mortgage Top Up Options
If you have a mortgage with one of the following New Zealand banks, you might be able to add the cost of insulating your home to your mortgage. You would pay back the insulation costs with interest over the term of your mortgage. Some banks may agree to waive any associated fees but you should discuss this with them.
